Men’s Discipleship Training Program

The Process of Training Leaders

Grace Community Bible Church is committed to the process of training men. We take serious the command Paul gave to Timothy to train men as a mandate for our church as well (II Tim.2:2). Though we realize that not all men in our training program will be called by God to church leadership, we do recognize the importance of all true believing men to assume biblical leadership of those God has placed in their lives. This list may include a wife, children, other family members, fellow employees, colleagues, or any others God may place in their path for the purpose of ministry. The goal is to train all men to be equipped with a deep knowledge of the true gospel and ability to disciple and nurture those in their care to a mature relationship with Christ.

One of the ways Grace Church is committed to the process of training men is through our DTP class (Discipleship Training Program). This class requires a two-year commitment. The class is open to any and all men and is designed to equip them to be godly Christ-centered. The first year is labeled as “spiritual life.” This year is dedicated to the biblical process of progressive sanctification. It consists of six main areas with many subcategories. First and foremost it is the process of each man understanding who he is before God. It is a deep biblical search for each man to be honest with his own spiritual state. The teaching helps a man to stop attempting to hide sinful tendencies from God and to repent of sin and allow God to freely continue to conform him into the image of His Son (Romans 8:29; Hebrews 4:12-13; Psalm 139:23-24). From there the study launches into the role of the godly husband and father, the godly man on the job, the godly man as a member of the church and concludes with the godly man of the Word.

The second year is designed around the ten major doctrines of the Scriptures. The first year is meant to prepare the man to humbly approach these biblical truths and not just merely be an academic exercise. The doctrines are taught with the biblical overarching view of God’s sovereignty. The goal of this second year is to give each man a biblical view of Christ-centered systematic theology that will lead him into deep worship and service of God.

In both years there is required reading and class participation to insure each man benefits fully from the instruction. The class is designed to train biblical leaders for home, job, and church. We are aware that not all men will aspire to the office of church leadership. However, we do believe that God will use this class to identify those He has chosen to fulfill a role as a biblical church leader and all men desiring leadership will be strongly encouraged to attend both years of D.T.P.
